28.October

We left early to make out way to Minamihokkeji, staying in Kashihara.

Indian, last night’s dinner spot

Today the weather decided that it was time for us to walk uphill, in the mountains with… lots of rain. The temple was pretty much deserted. It is said to be beautiful during the cherry blossoms season. We were not entirely sure. The statues were made recently in India, all rather commercialised.

Guarding the entrance
1000 armed kannon

I payed my respects at Kobo Daishi temple.

Giant glasses

This temple is known for having worked miracles healing eye diseases.

Fudomyo, the wisdom king, my favourite
Kannon of Mercy healing one’s sight

This giant kannon statue is a gift from India. It came in pieces, carved from rare rock.

This Buddha was also made in India

We did not stay for for too long. The rain was getting harder.

We made our way back to the hotel, dropped off the backpacks and decided to stick to the plan. We visited the shrine dedicated to Emperor Jimmu, Japan’s legendary first Emperor.

Chrysantheums

These are the flowers of the Emperor, the chrysantheum throne.

Cute little bonsai

It is the year of the horse. That ema couldn’t be bigger!

We signed the visitor book and left with more rain to come. There was another temple on the way back to the hotel and then an onsen waiting.

We stopped for some quick dinner and admired the yellow postbox… there is only 1 in Japan.

Good night.
